The Story Behind Just Support
Hi, I’m Jade-Elise Newell, the founder of Just Support, and think of me as your party leader on this epic quest we call life. My journey into the world of disability support started long before I founded Just Support, back when I worked as an inclusive teaching assistant in high schools. Every day, I had the privilege of encouraging and nurturing the social-emotional skills of my students. I witnessed firsthand how empowering young people with disabilities led to remarkable academic progress. When students felt seen, heard and valued, their confidence soared and their self-worth blossomed. That confidence spilled over into their academic lives, turning challenges into accomplishments.
Creating tailored plans and programs to support these students, both inside and outside the classroom, sparked my passion for developing holistic support structures. It showed me that when we cultivate self-esteem, everything else from social skills to academic performance follows. I also saw how crucial this support was for young people on the brink of leaving school, struggling to navigate the path to work and independent living. That was when I realised I wanted to do more, not just within the school walls but beyond them.
And so Just Support was born, a natural progression of my dedication to supporting young adults who deserve so much more than a one-size-fits-all approach. As a parent of two teenagers preparing to step out into the world, I saw firsthand the gaps in support services for young people at this stage of life. This lack of pathways for young adults became the driving force behind my mission to build something better.
Raising the Standard of SupportEthical Care That Puts People First
Just Support was created out of necessity, a need to fill the gap left for young adults who fall between the cracks of traditional care. Over the years, I witnessed too many providers operating without integrity, failing to uphold even the most basic moral standards of care. As the popularity of independent support workers grew, so did the number of people entering the industry with little to no accountability. I wanted better. I wanted to create something that stood for real, ethical support where people were not just numbers on a roster, and where their needs were met with care, dignity and genuine commitment.
There is a distinct lack of services for young people transitioning from child-like therapies to adult care, particularly for those with cognitive differences who do not fit the standard mould. Too often, young adults are placed in environments that fail to consider their interests, goals and potential. Support should be about building people up, not just ticking boxes. Just Support was built to be more than just a service. It is a safe and empowering space where young adults can develop, explore and reach for their personal best.

We believe in using the passions of young people, whether it is gaming, roleplay, art or social activities, as a gateway to building skills, confidence and independence. Support should never feel like a chore. It should be engaging, meaningful and tailored to each individual. We do not just assist our participants. We invest in them, in their futures and in helping them shape lives they are proud of.
A Safe Haven for EveryoneReal Inclusion, Not Just Words
But it is not just about what we do. It is about how we do it. Our service is queer-owned and proudly stands as a safe haven for anyone in need. Many providers claim to be inclusive, but true inclusion requires action. We actively create spaces where people can be themselves, free from judgment or discrimination. This is especially important for the trans community, who face additional barriers to receiving the quality support they deserve. We fly our flag loud and proud because we believe in building a world where everyone feels welcome, understood and celebrated.
This mission is deeply personal for me. My wife Elizabeth has been my biggest supporter through this journey. With over 15 years in the allied health field, she has been a guiding light, offering insight and wisdom that have shaped Just Support’s foundations. Though she is not directly involved in the company, her influence is woven into everything we do. Together, we know the importance of providing inclusive, ethical and understanding care, particularly for those in the LGBTQIA+ and trans community, who are often left behind in traditional services.
