At Just Support, we believe community access is about more than getting out of the house. It is about building confidence, exploring interests, practising real-world skills and finding places where young people feel safe, included and connected.
Our Community Access & Independence Support service is designed for teenagers and young adults who want to take meaningful steps toward independence. Support is tailored to the person, their goals, their comfort level and the communities they want to be part of.
Exploring Interests and Building Confidence
Everyone connects with the world differently. Some people enjoy art, gaming, music, nature, sport, cafés, shopping centres, libraries, movies, conventions or community events. Others may need support to discover what they enjoy and build confidence trying new things.
Our team works alongside participants to explore activities that feel meaningful, enjoyable and achievable. This may include attending social groups, joining creative activities, visiting local places, going to events, or participating in gaming and tabletop sessions at Dragon’s Gate Gaming.
Social Connection and Community Participation
Building friendships and social confidence can take time. Community access can support participants to practise communication, turn-taking, decision-making, emotional regulation and confidence around others in natural settings.
This might look like ordering at a café, joining a group activity, attending a movie, playing a board game, visiting a market, going for a walk, or spending time in a shared community space. The goal is not to force social interaction, but to create safe opportunities for connection at the participant’s pace.
Everyday Independence Skills
Community access also supports practical life skills. Our team can assist participants to build confidence with everyday tasks such as grocery shopping, using public transport, attending appointments, managing money, planning outings, navigating new places, and making choices in the community.
We provide the right level of support, whether that means hands-on assistance, prompting, planning, encouragement, body-doubling, or helping break tasks into smaller steps.
Support That Fits the Person
No two participants are the same. Some may want busy, social outings. Others may prefer quiet, familiar places. Some may be working toward independence in public spaces, while others may be focusing on emotional regulation, confidence or simply leaving the house more often.
We take a flexible and person-centred approach, adapting each shift to suit the participant’s needs, energy, goals and preferences.
Your Journey, Your Pace
At Just Support, community access is about helping young people feel more confident in the world around them. Whether someone is learning to catch the bus, trying a new hobby, attending Dragon’s Gate Gaming, building friendships, or practising everyday tasks, we are here to walk beside them.
Supporting confidence, connection and independence, one adventure at a time.
