Ghosts, Griffins, and the Great Pie Caper
Sessions 13–15
After a dramatic mansion raid, the death of a party member, and one very confused pony delivery, you’d think things would slow down.
They did not.
Isacc’s Funeral (and Return-ish)
Back at Trollskull Manor, the party laid Isac’s body to rest… only for his ghost to linger. He was still hanging around the tavern, visible only to some, occasionally commenting on people’s decisions from beyond the veil.
His death hit the group hard. Kind of.
Nathan—who had nearly been killed during the Gralhund raid—returned to his homeland to begin plotting revenge on Isac’s uncle. Emotional goodbyes were exchanged. Well, awkward goodbyes. It is the Spoopy Inn, after all.
Enter: Phoenix the Axolotl Paladin
Just as one chaos spirit left, another entered. Meet Phoenix: an axolotl-person with big “let’s be friends” energy and a strong sense of justice. The party hoped he’d help keep things a little more grounded.
Spoiler: he tried. He really did.
Apple’s Redemption Arc
The next quest took the group in search of Apple, Grape’s defective creation—previously thought to be dangerous.
Turns out Apple wasn’t evil, just… unfinished. Without the ability to say no, Apple followed any order, no matter how bad. The party promised to help fix that.
So off they went to Jarlaxle and his gnome team for repairs. Phoenix, of course, slap-teleported the group across the ocean to save time. As you do.
The gnomes successfully gave Apple free will, sparking a whole new personality arc. Grape was shook.
The Butcher of the Field Ward
Apple provided a lead: the Stone of Golorr had passed through a butcher shop in the Field Ward, run by a dragonborn named Thrakkus.
The party confronted him and discovered that the meat he was selling… wasn’t exactly from animals.
After a roughing-up, Thrakkus confessed: he didn’t have the stone, but he sent it to a bakery in the Trades Ward.
The bakery’s name? Cuttie’s Pies.
Cuttie’s Pies and Espionage Fails
The party scouted the bakery. Phoenix used clairvoyance to check inside—only one woman was present, stocking shelves.
Eva entered solo to investigate, doing her best not to be weird.
It almost worked.
Unfortunately, the rest of the party kept interrupting, pretending to be hungry (and very bad at pretending). Eventually, the woman confessed that the pie shipment had come unexpectedly and was picked up that same night. She suspected her neighbours were up to something.
Phoenix scried the neighbours and spotted Zhentarim agents handling the stone.
He teleported over to steal it—but fumbled. The Zhent agent grabbed it and bolted.
Eva chased them down—on a magic water horse—and stole the stone back. Meanwhile, a gang of bugbears showed up, demanding the Zhentarim release one of their friends. A full street brawl broke out.
The party bailed with the Stone of Golorr in hand.
The Stone Watches
Back at Trollskull Manor, Eva attuned to the stone.
It changed her.
She gained a new cantrip. She gained new knowledge. She gained… a sense that the stone was watching her, flipping through her memories like pages in a book.
Still, it worked.
They asked the stone where to find the missing gold. It responded—cryptically at first, but eventually, it revealed:
“The vault lies beneath the City of the Dead, beneath the Brandath Mausoleum.”
Buried treasure. Cryptic clues. A ghost in the attic.
The Spoopy Inn is just getting started.
Coming up in Chapter 7: undead awakenings, water horse theft, ghost whispering, pony drama, and a final showdown beneath the tombstones of Waterdeep.
