A Day in The Life: Fostering Independence and Enjoyment with Just Support

Welcome to A Day in the Life, our way of sharing what support services could look like for you. Navigating the NDIS can be tricky and knowing what Support Workers can and cannot do for you isn’t always clear. Our aim is to provide you real life examples of what our staff and clients get up to on a regular day. See how different activities promote independence and achieving NDIS goals.

Morning Routine and Pet Care

The day begins with our Brisbane-based support worker assisting the client with their morning routine. This not only ensures a smooth start but also empowers the client to independently manage their personal care. Feeding the cats adds a touch of responsibility, promoting a sense of purpose and routine.

Engaging in Physical Activities

A visit to the basketball court becomes an opportunity for physical activity. Engaging in friendly games not only promotes fitness but also encourages social interaction and teamwork, fostering a sense of belonging and self-confidence.

Independent Shopping Experience

A trip to the local store for brownie mix is more than just a shopping excursion. Guiding the client through the process of selecting and purchasing items promotes decision-making skills and independence. The use of self-serve checkout adds an extra layer of autonomy.

Culinary Adventure and Skill Development

Back at home, the client takes the lead in baking brownies. Our Brisbane-based support worker provides assistance as needed, encouraging skill development. As the client gains confidence in the kitchen, they request setting up a game of Monopoly, showcasing their growing independence.

Brownie Serving and Leisure Activities

After successfully baking brownies, the client takes charge of serving. This activity not only enhances culinary skills but also reinforces the satisfaction of completing a task independently. Continuing with a game of Monopoly adds an element of leisure, promoting cognitive skills and decision-making.

Recording Progress and Wrapping Up

The session concludes with both client and support worker recording their progress in the game. This collaborative effort fosters a sense of achievement and responsibility. The support worker ensures a smooth transition, marking the end of a day filled with positive experiences.
