At Just Support, every shift is a new adventure. Whether it’s building confidence, working on daily routines, or just enjoying the little things in life, our team is there to provide support, encouragement, and a helping hand when needed.
Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes to see what a day in the life of one of our adventurers looks like—how they navigate their world with the support of our team, tackling challenges, celebrating wins, and growing along the way.
Setting the Quest: The Day’s Goals
Our adventurer started the day feeling a little uncertain about their schedule. They had an important task ahead—picking up a suit for an upcoming event—but were confused about the timing. Our support staff stepped in to provide gentle guidance, helping to clarify that the pickup was scheduled for 5 PM, not 3 PM. A simple miscommunication, but one that could have caused unnecessary stress without support.
Once the schedule was sorted, it was time for some downtime. Our adventurer enjoys gaming, and spending time playing video games together became a great way to build rapport and create a space where they felt comfortable and in control of their day.
Side Quests: Money Management and Independence
As the afternoon progressed, our adventurer was ready to tackle their errands. First stop: the Plaza to withdraw cash, an important skill for fostering independence. Managing money and budgeting can sometimes feel overwhelming, so our staff provided subtle guidance, ensuring they had the confidence to navigate the process on their own.
Then, it was off to Browns Plains to pick up the much-anticipated suit. It was a big moment—choosing, purchasing, and collecting something important for a personal event. To mark the occasion, our staff helped capture the moment with photos, which our adventurer was excited to share with their mum. These little acts of connection—being able to share wins and special moments—help to strengthen relationships and create positive associations with independence.
The Power of Routine: Encouraging Self-Care
With the suit safely collected, the next step was preparing for acting class. Self-care and personal presentation play a huge role in building confidence, so our staff provided gentle reminders and encouragement to shower and get ready. Maintaining hygiene and daily routines isn’t always easy, but having a support system in place makes it feel more achievable.
Once ready, we made a quick stop at Hungry Jack’s for dinner, turning an everyday meal into an enjoyable social experience. Our adventurer loves music, so we turned up the volume and discussed different artists and tracks while enjoying the drive. The conversation was effortless, filled with laughter and excitement—a reminder that support isn’t just about tasks, but also about creating meaningful, joyful moments.
During the drive, our adventurer called their mum, sharing part of their evening with her. It was clear that this relationship is an important and positive one, and finding ways to nurture those family connections is something we always encourage.
Stepping Into the Spotlight: Acting Class & Emotional Wellbeing
Acting class is a highlight of the week, and our staff was there to provide support in the background while our adventurer took center stage. Sitting quietly at the back, our staff remained present, ensuring they felt safe and supported while giving them space to participate independently.
At one point, during a meditation exercise, our staff noticed a shift in our adventurer’s mood. There was a quiet moment—perhaps of reflection, perhaps of sadness—as they removed their glasses and wiped their eyes. Not wanting to intrude but also ensuring their well-being, our staff checked in afterward. When asked if everything was okay, our adventurer simply responded that they had fallen asleep.
It’s moments like these that highlight the importance of emotional support. Whether it was fatigue, deep reflection, or something more, our staff remained attuned to their needs, respecting their response while staying mindful of any emotional struggles they might be experiencing.
As the class continued, our adventurer engaged enthusiastically in a script reading, fully immersed in their passion for acting. Watching them thrive in a space they love was a rewarding moment—not just for them, but for our staff, who take pride in seeing our adventurers grow and express themselves.
Looking Ahead: What’s Next?
Every shift is an opportunity for progress. As we look toward the next session, there are a few things to focus on:
- Encouraging more emotional openness – If our adventurer feels ready, we can create more opportunities for them to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe and supportive environment.
- Supporting social connections – Given the positive bond with their mum, finding activities that allow for more shared experiences could be beneficial.
- Continuing to nurture their passion for acting – Helping them prepare for future classes, auditions, or rehearsals can reinforce their confidence and commitment to their craft.
At Just Support, we believe that every step—big or small—matters. From mastering daily routines to exploring creative passions, our adventurers are always moving forward, and we’re right there beside them, cheering them on every step of the way.
