At Just Support, we understand that not every day is filled with high energy and excitement. Some days, our adventurers need extra patience, encouragement, and support just to get through the basics. Whether it’s helping with personal care, providing motivation, or simply being present, our team is there to meet each individual where they are.
Today’s journey follows an adventurer navigating a low-energy day, where even small steps were significant wins.
Starting the Day: Gentle Encouragement & Daily Routines
The day began with our support staff helping our adventurer ease into their morning. They were low on energy and uninterested in engaging, so we took a gentle approach, assisting them with simple tasks like:
✔️ Waking up and brushing their hair – Establishing small but important daily care routines.
✔️ Preparing breakfast – Offering toast to ensure they had something to eat.
✔️ Providing choice and control – Encouraging them to decide what to do, even if they weren’t feeling particularly motivated.
While our adventurer wasn’t very responsive, our staff remained patient and supportive, offering guidance without pressure.
Motivation Through Small Goals
Since engagement was low, we introduced a simple incentive—using their last energy drink as motivation to accompany us to Coles. This gave them a clear, achievable reason to leave the house, encouraging movement and a sense of autonomy in decision-making.
While out, we also briefly looked up curling irons, something our adventurer had previously shown interest in. However, today wasn’t the right day for it, and they decided against pursuing it further. Respecting these choices is just as important as encouraging engagement—it helps build trust and reinforces their ability to make decisions at their own pace.
Observations & Emotional Wellbeing
Throughout the shift, our adventurer remained flat and disengaged, showing limited interest in activities or conversation. A few key concerns stood out:
- Eating habits – They only ate part of their toast, continuing a pattern of reduced appetite and recent weight loss.
- Fatigue and motivation – They seemed tired and unmotivated, declining school and other activities.
- Brief engagement in play – A moment of connection during an archery game provided a small but meaningful spark of interaction before they retreated back to their room.
These observations help our team adapt our approach, ensuring we provide the right level of support without overwhelming pressure.
Looking Ahead: Supporting Wellbeing & Small Wins
Moving forward, our focus remains on gentle encouragement and well-being, with some key areas to consider:
➡️ Encouraging small activities – Finding low-pressure ways to engage, whether through conversation, games, or small outings.
➡️ Supporting healthy eating – Exploring different foods or strategies to encourage better nutrition.
➡️ Revisiting personal care choices – Checking in about the curling iron interest again at a later time, when they may feel more engaged.
➡️ Maintaining routine – Sticking to pre-planned goals like hair washing on Friday to provide predictability and structure.
Our adventurer may have had a low-energy day, but every shift is a new opportunity to support, encourage, and meet them where they are.
